The ideal candidate is a seasoned commercial lender with an established presence in the local market, capable of managing a diverse portfolio and originating loans ranging from $500K to $20MM. A generalist with strong experience across CRE, C&I, SBA, and development lending is preferred.
Why Join
Join a forward-thinking financial institution that blends personalized service with a strong digital presence to support businesses nationwide. You'll be part of a mission-driven team that values innovation, integrity, and long-term client relationships. This role offers the opportunity to make a measurable impact by helping business clients thrive, while also enjoying a collaborative environment, meaningful career growth, and a compensation structure that rewards performance.
Responsibilities and Duties
Sales and Business Development
- Actively identify and pursue new opportunities in both conventional and SBA lending markets through in-person visits, networking, referrals, digital outreach, and participation in community events.
- Build strong relationships with prospects and clients by offering tailored banking solutions, including loans, deposit accounts, credit cards, and treasury management services.
- Conduct on-site visits with business clients to better understand their operations and offer value-driven financial products.
- Serve as a visible and trusted representative of the organization within the business community, expanding influence and creating new channels for client acquisition.
- Maintain a strong presence in the local market, leveraging an existing client portfolio and industry reputation to actively source new opportunities.
- Focus on direct client relationships rather than broker-driven models, though occasional third-party deals may be considered.
Loan Structuring and Credit Collaboration
- Structure a variety of commercial and government-backed loans, independently negotiating complex terms and conditions aligned with client needs and institutional policies.
- Partner with internal credit teams to analyze financial statements, assess risk, and determine loan viability through clear, well-prepared credit memos.
- Present loan proposals and findings to internal review teams or committees as needed for approval or further consideration.
- Evaluate and negotiate credit terms during early-stage discussions with prospects, establishing lending structure and risk perspectives prior to formal underwriting submission.
- Originate loans with an average size between $500K and $1MM, with the capacity to structure deals up to $20MM.
Portfolio Oversight and Risk Management
- Oversee an assigned portfolio of business clients, ensuring financial health through regular analysis, risk rating accuracy, and early identification of potential concerns.
- Review daily overdrafts and past-due accounts, and recommend appropriate action to mitigate risk.
- Conduct periodic financial reviews and collect necessary client documentation to maintain compliance and adapt strategies to evolving client circumstances.
- Coordinate with credit partners to complete timely annual reviews and communicate results effectively with clients.
- Manage a commercial loan portfolio between $50MM and $100MM, ensuring its performance aligns with institutional standards and client needs.
Performance and Goal Management
- Drive profitability by appropriately pricing loans, maximizing fee income, and cross-selling complementary financial services.
- Take ownership of individual production targets, including loan origination volumes, deposit growth, and internal referrals—measured and reviewed annually.
- Maintain accurate financial records and contribute to the achievement of team-level performance benchmarks.
- Expected annual loan production between $8MM and $20MM, based on historical performance metrics and regional demand.
Client Relationship and Communication
- Foster long-term relationships with business clients, their representatives, and internal partners by providing responsive, transparent communication and consultative service.
- Ensure clients are consistently informed of application status, approvals, or denials in a manner aligned with policy and regulatory expectations.
- Log all prospecting activity, sales interactions, and pipeline updates in the CRM system; maintain data integrity and regular reporting cadence.
- Protect client confidentiality and uphold fiduciary responsibilities at all times.
Regulatory Compliance and Market Awareness
- Maintain full adherence to regulatory requirements and internal operating procedures, including SBA and commercial lending standards.
- Stay informed on industry regulations, market conditions, and emerging trends to offer strategic insights to clients.
- Collaborate with leadership to align day-to-day processes with broader strategic goals and business banking initiatives.
